Crop Factor

The crop factor of a camera refers to how large it's imaging sensor is when compared to a 35mm full frame sensor. The crop factor can be used to calculate the equivalent field of view between cameras with different sensor sizes.

Example:

CameraSensor SizeCrop Factor
Canon EOS 5D mkIVFull Frame1.0
Canon EOS 7DAPS-C1.6x

To calculate the effective field of view for the 7D, you can multiply the focal length of a lens by 1.6x.
